Welcoming Tuncel Emir
This year, Robert College welcomed many new members to its community. Among them was Tuncel Emir, Robert College's newest CIP assistant. His decision to come happened instantly, and life led him to Robert College.
He had previously worked in the field of civil society. After the meeting at school, he realized that, given his extensive background working in the field of civil society, many aspects of the CIP program at Robert College resonated with him, and many aspects of the role aligned with his past experiences and his cause. Now he works as an assistant in the CIP department, where they carry out community involvement projects with RC students. They "aim to help the students improve their social relationships" in addition to academics.
Emir Tuncel has enjoyed his time at Robert College so far, especially the chance to observe the school's atmosphere closely. One of the things that impressed him was the campus itself: surrounded by trees and its natural setting gave him a sense of calm. Just as meaningful as the setting, he mentioned the people he met. He consistently describes them as kind and friendly. Something he felt strongly about during the orientation week was a memory from the first orientation week at RC. They present the newcomers with their photos and names so everyone gets to know each other, and after that, the people they had not met before greet them in the corridors. This made him feel welcomed and not like a stranger, so he felt. Over time, he has come to appreciate the community's observant and caring nature. Together, these experiences shaped his first impressions of RC. Even though he didn't face any major challenges at RC up until now, one minor difficulty he had was communicating with a young group in a school setting, something he hadn't done often in his previous jobs.
Tuncel Emir describes himself as a calm person, "sweet old grandpa," not to imply anything negative, but he believes that this description highlights his nature. He is a kind person who shares his thoughts openly during work while still staying focused and productive.
Described by his friends as "sincere" and "a good listener," Tuncel Emir has multiple hobbies in addition to his community work. A surprising fact about him is that he holds a black belt in karate. Additionally, he loves going on nature walks, reading books, riding bikes, and knitting, and he has even made a couple of scarves.
When asked about his favorite TV show or movie, he hesitated a bit because he enjoys watching all types of movies in general. After thinking for a moment, Emir Tuncel said that he loves the movie "The Fall" and is a fan of "Avatar: The Last Airbender," even pointing out he has a mug with Appa's Yip-Yip on it, gifted by a friend. Apart from watching movies, he has also enjoyed reading sociology, research, and history books for as long as he can remember. He enjoys traveling to new places and exploring new cultures. However, unlike other people, Emir doesn't like to visit touristy and popular areas. Instead, he prefers to see and get to know the local people to learn more about the local culture.
With many hobbies and interests, Tuncel Emir will be a great addition to the Robert College community. We wish him the best of luck at RC.
