Welcoming Back Interview with Ms. Çiğdem Yaşar
We give a warm welcome back to Ms. Çiğdem Yaşar! She brings her fun energy to Robert College and is very kind. Before starting our interview, we wanted to keep our interview short and sweet.
Ms. Yaşar works in the biology laboratory team, but she's not a part of the teacher staff. In our school, she is responsible for conducting labs and is a biology lab assistant. The reason I wanted an interview with her was that I have seen her sometimes walking around during our class time, preparing lab stations for us and I wanted to interview a familiar face. In our interview, I started by asking about her interest in biology. She liked that it was an open field with new possibilities for improvement. She graduated from biology, but she didn't always like it as much. When she first came to Robert College in 2005, her love for biology grew by making university-level experiments and following current scientific developments. In addition, biology also helped her improve herself.
When we started talking about interests, we talked about her hobbies. She said that she likes buying and making jewelry for herself. She also believes that jewelry is hard to make because you repeat the same process - putting beads on a chain - over and over again. Our common point was that we both like shopping for jewelry even if it's unnecessary. In the recent news, unfortunately a very important scientist named Jane Goodall died, which made me want to ask a question. I asked Ms. Yaşar which scientist she would meet if she could, living or dead. She said that it was a hard question because every scientist is very important in their field, but she came to a conclusion that she would meet Aziz Sancar. We talked more about different scientists before we moved to the next question. The last two questions we talked about were more school-focused. Since she used to be in Robert College before, I asked her which school she taught during this break and why she decided to come back to Robert College. She was a lab assistant in Robert College from 2005 to 2017. During this break, she taught in Ankara for 5 years, then came back to Istanbul to teach in Enka Schools for 3 years. After she got an offer to come back to Robert College this year, she accepted and made her return. She decided to come back to Robert College, because she loves it here. She sees it as it's her own home and she likes to work with the teachers, the students and the school.
In conclusion, Ms. Çiğdem Yaşar is a great teacher to work and talk with. As a school, we all are so happy for her that she decided to come back and we welcome her back to her home.
