Interview with the New Bosphorus Chronicle Members
Did you ever wonder how new members of a club feel when they join a new club? With nearly 1000 students in Robert College, imagine how many people sign in for new clubs every year. I don't know about you but I personally always felt very curious about how people feel when they experience new things like new clubs. Since I joined a new club this year: Bosphorus Chronicle, I wondered how the new members of the club are feeling. As a new member myself, I wanted to learn how others felt and so I decided to conduct a series of interviews with other fellow new members at the Bosphorus Chronicle.
I started to interview Selin Ateş and I asked her how she knew about the Bosphorus Chronicle. It turns out that she read some of its previous publications and wanted to give it a try. She also added that she was feeling very excited and happy about being here. While we were talking a little bit about expectations from the club, she said she hopes she can develop her writing skills while enjoying the process of writing. We thanked each other for the great opportunity of this interview.
Then, I began the second interview with Derin Ovnamak. She had heard the Bosphorus Chronicle from her friend, Selin. She said that she was very excited for the club and her motivation for joining this club was to share her ideas with people. She thought this club was the most convenient way to do so and thus, she joined the Bosphorus Chronicle. When she was asked how she felt about being in this club, she answered by saying that she is very glad and happy to be in this club. With what Derin said in my mind, I moved to the third interview.
After my interview with Derin, I interviewed with Duru Ozan. It turned out that during the shop-around, she saw the Bosphorus Chronicle and since writing was one of her passions, she was driven to try out for the club. Her motivation for signing up to this club is her enthusiasm about writing and her goal of developing her skills even further. She feels very happy and glad that she joined the club. Her expectation is to practice her writing more in this friendly and accepting environment. After this inspiring interview, I moved on to my final interview.
The final interview was with Pınar Şahin. She already knew that Bosphorus Chronicle was a newspaper writing club and she thought "Why not join the club?", since she wants to practice her newspaper writing skills and because the club motivates its students to write newspapers as if they are writing in normal life, this was a perfect choice for her. She also mentioned that she loved the club's effect on making people informed about events happening at school. Other than that, she stated again that the reason she joined the club was because she wants to improve her knowledge about structuring sentences and writing formal essays. She also liked the idea of one of her articles being published in the newspaper.
These interviews were exciting for me. They also helped me to understand people's feelings about their new clubs (Or at least about the Bosphorus Chronicle). As for myself as a new Bosphorus Chronicle member, I think this club is a good opportunity in terms of writing articles and taking responsibility. I hope I learn new things in this club this year and I hope I can have fun while doing so.
